I am assuming that most of the people reading my blogs have at least some interest in the outdoors. So instead of trying to preach to you about why you should love the outdoors, I want to talk about how I fell in love with the outdoors.

There are three things that I feel have lead to my love for the outdoors.
The first is outdoor diversity. By diversity I mean different places. I grew up in Utah and experienced the outdoors almost every weekend. It wasn't until I began traveling outdoors in various states and countries that I truly understood the beauty and diversity of the outdoors. If you aren't already in love with the outdoor surroundings in your area, travel a little further. The difference and/or similarities may surprise you.
The second is taking time to admire nature. My family grew up with quick access to mountains and lakes which allowed us to go camping often. Growing up I was caught in the hustle of bustle of ride your bike, eat a hot dog, make a s'more and I didn't take the time to slow down and smell the flowers, or sage brush in my case. The outdoors become much more powerful once you take the time to appreciate them as more than just a place for recreation.
The third is doing outdoors your way. I am a planner and I feel much better about visiting anywhere if I have a solid plan in place. Therefore I feel I get the most out of the outdoors when I plan my stay ahead of time. If I am going to be outdoors during a meal I make sure to pack a portable meal because I get hangry. And my version of hangry can ruin any experience. Whatever your style is, incorporate it into how you experience the outdoors.

Let me know how you have learned to love the outdoors because you deserve a breath of fresh air.
